Meet Christopher Montero
I was born and raised in Costa Rica, where I was fortunate in having ample contact with nature in this country of exuberant tropical ecosystems. My enthusiasm for wildlife began at an early age with a large focus on reptiles, but in time my interest expanded to other groups of organisms. I also explored natural history and conservation which eventually led me to do my studies at university in biology and natural sciences.
My path in arts has been intertwined with my zeal for nature. Have you seen those kids drawing obsessively the things that fascinate them? Well, that was me with little change since. To this day I continue to fill nature journals page after page; sketching herons, caimans and dinosaur bones. In the field of art, I have worked as a scientific illustrator, cartoonist and as a 2D animator at the talented animation house Martestudio.
With my journey in the sciences, I have shared my passion for the natural world as a speaker, environmental educator, writer and naturalist guide. I have had the privilege to work with different organizations, such as the Organization for Tropical Studies, the Sierra Institute (formally part of the Humboldt State University) and Wolf Haven International. I continue traveling to Costa Rica to lead courses for Biomimicry 3.8 and also as a trip leader for National Geographic Student Expeditions teaching Wildlife and Conservation where I have traveled to Ecuador, Australia, the Canadian Arctic, Brazil, Belize, Zimbabwe, and Botswana.
